Discussion
Issued at 216 AM MDT Fri Oct 30 2026
Low pressure along the OR-WA coast will bring a deep south southwesterly flow that will dredge up some subtropical moisture and bring it far enough northward to bring showers to the western parts of the forecast area, spreading eastward during the afternoon and through the overnight. The low itself splits with part of it moving inlands into central OR by Sun morning. On Sat night moderate to heavy precipitation develops over the southern portions of the Gem State, including high elevation snow in the central Idaho mountains. Very little snow develops outside of the central Idaho mountains, so the snow level will lower to around 7000ft elevation. Rain and snow continues at lower rates for Sun night.
The southerly airflow does bring in mild air and overcomes the cloud cover to produce a solid warm up into the lower 60s for the heavily populated Snake River corridor. However, the continued thick cloud cover for Sun means much cooler temperatures for the afternoon, about as cold as the previous Thu. As the cold air moves in behind the low on Sun the temperatures cool more, barely reaching the 50 degree mark in lower elevations even along the southern border.
Not too much wind to speak of with this low, but some breezy to windy conditions possible in south central Idaho on Sun/Sun night.

Coastal low is already pushing in showers from the south into the KBYI area. This should spread and intensify during the day, finally having an impact by the afternoon. At this point, it will be mainly increasing chances of marginal VFR conditions at all airdromes at some point in the late afternoon and evening, finally staying that way. Only KDIJ has a chance at the very end of the TAF time of having IFR due to VSBY, due to BR with -SHRA. Only KPIH and KIDA appear to have a brief period of gusty S to W wind before the heavier SHRA and BR move in.
Fire weather
Issued at 216 AM MDT Fri Oct 30 2026
Rain and high elevation snow can be expected starting today and continuing, off and on, through Sun night/Mon morning. Very high humidity with only occasionally breezy to windy conditions expected as the low crosses through the western states during this period, tracking south of Idaho for its center. Temperatures peak today, with some low elevations reaching to around 60 degrees, but cooling for Sat and even more cooling Sun. Some snow is possible at elevations down to around 7000ft or so.
