Update
Issued 705 PM CDT Thu Oct 29 2026
Very low dewpoint temperatures in the 30s, winds becoming very light to calm, and clear skies will allow for temperatures to drop into the upper 30s tonight. Any fog or frost will remain in low-lying areas where the coldest air pools. Otherwise forecast remains on track.

Short term
Issued 311 PM CDT Thu Oct 29 2026
Tonight through Saturday Night:
Pleasant fall weather is expected the rest of today through Friday as high pressure settles into the upper Great Lake Region following a cold front. Even with light winds and subsidence tonight, fog should remain confined to low lying areas, as we will have a drier air mass overhead. Radiational cooling will promote lows in the mid to upper 30s. Tomorrow morning temperatures should be around 50 by the time festivities start in Milwaukee, while the rest of the CWA will be in the upper 40s. Expect highs in the mid to upper 50s Friday afternoon amid light east to northeasterly winds and partly sunny skies.
Friday night, a sfc warm front over Iowa, and low to mid level WAA will cause an area of rain to approach southern WI. Rain will fight dry air from the lingering sfc high most of Friday night, and rain chances may not increase over southwest WI and the WI/IL border area until after Midnight Saturday. Saturation will eventually occur and rain chances from 50 to 70% will be possible Saturday morning mainly southwest of a line from Wisconsin Dells to Milwaukee. Rain chances are then expected to taper off Saturday afternoon as the sfc warm front and the WAA wave aloft weakens. At this time, it looks like rain chances will be 20% or less as Trick or Treating takes place Saturday evening. With the rain and cloud cover, Saturday should remain cool with highs in the upper 50s to near 60.

Long term
Issued 309 PM CDT Thu Oct 29 2026
Sunday through Thursday:
Sunday has trended drier as high pressure that is expected to be over the eastern half of the US looks to hold fast and push rain chances southeast into the Ohio River Valley. High temperatures will rebound into the mid 60s for highs Sunday as mixing will tap into 925mb temps around 13 C aloft.
A fairly active weather pattern is then expected to set up for next week, as the GFS and ECMWF show an occluding low pressure system over the northern plains interacting with a closed low aloft from central Canada and broad 500mb troughing of the subtropical Jet over the central US. The occlusion of the low will exposes us to WAA driven rain Monday night into Tuesday and then potentially a slow moving surface trough and more rain Wednesday into Thursday. Given a lot of moving atmospheric parts coming together to form next week's weather system, a lot of uncertainty exists with regard to the timing and exact evolution of the system. For now better certainty exists for rain Monday night into Tuesday, with a far murkier picture beyond. Stay tuned through the weekend for increases in forecast confidence.
Given the occluding system will wrap a lot of warm air into it, next week does look potentially mild with highs in the 60s Mon thru Wednesday, with temperatures then finally feeling more fall-lake late next week.

VFR conditions expected throughout the TAF period, with northwesterly winds becoming light and variable to calm overnight. Issued 217 PM CDT Thu Oct 29 2026
High pressure of 30.2 inches will move into the area tonight in the wake of a cold front that passed over the region earlier today. Moderate northwesterly winds with gusts to 20 knots will persist this afternoon into tonight. Winds then ease Friday as the core of the high pressure moves toward the lake, and then winds become light and variable Friday late afternoon into the evening as the high pressure center moves over the middle third of the lake.
Moderate southeasterly winds then return Saturday as the high exits eastward, low pressure of 29.8 inches moves into the central plains. Light to moderate southeasterly to southerly winds then persist into Monday.
