Discussion

A fairly zonal flow pattern develops over the area through tonight, then upper ridging builds over the region on Friday ahead of a series of shortwaves advancing mainly across the south central states. The series of shortwaves evolve into an upper trof which moves into the region over the weekend, with the upper ridge meanwhile shifting off to the east. The upper trof weakens and continues off into the western Atlantic early next week while a longwave trof advances into the central states. A surface ridge over the southeastern states eventually shifts off to the east and allows for northeasterly surface winds to become easterly on Saturday. There's a lot of uncertainty from Saturday night on into early next week with the potential for an inverted surface trof or surface low to develop over the north central Gulf and either eventually move off towards the coast of the Carolinas or get caught up in the easterlies and head towards the western or northwestern Gulf.
Regardless of how this pans out, expect chance pops to return to the forecast on Saturday, then mostly likely pops follow for Saturday night and Sunday. Less confidence exists for Monday and Tuesday, but for now am continuing with dry conditions for Monday, then slight chance to chance pops return on Tuesday. Highs will be mostly in the upper 70s to lower 80s through Tuesday except for a bit cooler on Sunday. Lows tonight range from the mid 40s well inland to the mid 50s to near 60 at the coast then trend through Friday night to range from around 60 well inland to the mid/upper 60s at the coast. Similar values follow for Saturday night, then lows Sunday night and Monday night range from the mid/upper 50s well inland to the lower 60s closer to the coast before moderating slightly Tuesday night. A moderate risk of rip currents is expected through Friday with a High Risk for Saturday and Sunday. /29

Light to moderate northeasterly winds prevail through Friday, occasionally becoming stronger well offshore. A moderate to occasionally strong easterly flow follows for Saturday through Monday. Small craft may need to exercise caution this evening well offshore, and a Small Craft Advisory may become necessary well offshore Friday morning. Another Small Craft Advisory may be necessary for the open Gulf waters Saturday through Monday. /29
