- Low to medium chances (10-50%) for showers and a few storms will linger into the early-mid part of next week.
Near term
(Today) Issued at 104 AM CDT Thu Oct 29 2026
Cirrus has since slid eastward out of the forecast area, leaving mostly clear skies in place. Combined with light winds, this set up will give way to good radiational cooling and a chance for fog development. Current observations show dewpoint depressions ranging from 0 to 8 degrees. Expecting patchy fog development ~08Z that will persist til 13Z, especially for the locations in the valleys and near bodies of water. Cannot rule out some spots becoming dense. Will monitor development to see if dense fog develops, and if it does, if the coverage would result in a Dense Fog Advisory. Regardless of coverage and density, take it slow during your morning commute. Otherwise, lingering high pressure across the Southeast will keep conditions dry for another day and help temps this afternoon reach the mid to upper 70s.
Short term
(Thursday night through Saturday) Issued at 1006 PM CDT Wed Oct 28 2026
Similar to tonight, patchy dense fog will need to be monitored again tomorrow night into Friday morning but there are uncertainties regarding cloud cover. Moisture will continue to increase on Friday as the remnants of tropical storm Vance track northeast and embed into a broader troughing pattern. While this won't result in any rain, expect to see an increase in cloud cover throughout the day, especially during the afternoon. Highs will top out in the upper 70s/lower 80s with lows in the 50s.
Moisture still appears to be limited with this system and rainfall totals have trended downward significantly over the past few days. Most likely amounts now look to be less than 0.5" across most of the area with the highest amounts south of the TN River. With a limited thermodynamic environment along with stronger synoptic forcing well to our north, no severe weather is expected.
Long term
(Saturday night through Wednesday) Issued at 1006 PM CDT Wed Oct 28 2026
Light to moderate rain (and perhaps some embedded drizzle) will persist into Sunday as the shortwave trough drops southeast of the TN Valley. Temperatures will remain on the cool side as a result of the clouds and precipitation, with readings staying in the 60s. Dew points will remain in the lower to middle 50s. Temperatures will moderate into the lower to middle 70s Monday and Tuesday. A stronger upper low/trough will move into the Plains Tuesday and lower MO Valley through the western Gulf states on Wednesday. This will spread increasing upper level divergence and UVVs into the MS and TN Valleys. Low level southerly flow will increase substantially ahead of the system, allowing dew points in the 50s to advect northward. A slower progression of the trough and cold front may delay arrival in the TN Valley until Wednesday and it remains unclear if the trough will become more sheared out to the northeast and not dig deeper into the Gulf states and southeast. In either case, medium to high PoPs are warranted in the forecast by Wednesday. At this early stage, instability looks to be quite meager with low probability of SBCAPE of 200 J/kg or higher, so the threat of severe weather remains low, but we will continue to assess trends as we move forward.

(12Z TAFS) Issued at 634 AM CDT Thu Oct 29 2026
Although current sfc observations indicate patchy BR/FG in local valleys and near large water sources, conds remain VFR at the HSV/MSL terminals. We expect this to continue for the next 24 hours, with generally clear skies and lgt/vrbl winds.
