Discussion
KEY MESSAGE 1:
No tricks, just treats are found in this forecast for the coming days. High pressure building in from the west will settle in overhead today into tonight before gradually shifting off to our east early next week, resulting in another extended stretch of dry weather. Clouds around early this morning are expected to scatter out for some sunshine. Northwesterly flow in place will lead to seasonably cool conditions this afternoon with highs in the 50s along with less wind in comparison to yesterday. As trick-or-treating time starts to roll around early this evening, temperatures will likely range from the upper 40s to the mid 50s around 5PM and fall into the 40s areawide by 7-8PM. With light winds and high pressure overhead it will be chillier overnight with lows in the mid 20s to the mid 30s.
As the high starts to shift slowly east Sunday, the flow will gradually turn more westerly aloft and temperatures moderate a bit with highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s. A warming trend continues Monday through Wednesday with upper-level ridging building in aloft and the flow becoming more south- southwesterly. Afternoon highs early next week will be running well above average in the 60s with some valley locations even making a run at 70 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday. The next opportunity for more meaningful rainfall looks to be later Wednesday night into Thursday as a frontal boundary approaches.
Aviation
Some lake effect MVFR cigs are possible at BGM, ITH, and SYR over the next few hours. These cigs will scatter out by day break with VFR conditions expected the rest of the 24 hour period.
Outlook:
Saturday night through Tuesday: Mainly VFR, potential for fog at ELM in the mornings Sunday into early next week.
Wednesday: Potential for an area of low pressure to pass by with chances of rain showers and lower cigs.
