Key messages
1. High pressure continues to dominate the weather into next week. Expect dry conditions and no significant weather impacts.
Discussion
KEY MESSAGE 1 DESCRIPTION:
As high pressure continues to drift eastward thru Thu, southwest winds will gradually increase. This will be most pronounced by afternoon, where winds may be breezy and temps will climb well into the 60s and maybe even hit 70 in a few spots. The cold front will not cross the area until Fri, so Thu night will be quite mild for this time of year and especially mild compared to recent min temps. Some locations are unlikely to drop out of the 50s, which will be within a few degrees of the record warm min temps for this time of year.
The frontal passage itself looks to be mostly dry again, but a stray shower or sprinkle remains possible. This will be most likely where upslope winds helping with lifting north of the mtns.
After the front we return to dry and seasonable weather. Temps are expected to be near normal for Halloween, with most areas starting the trick or treating in the 40s and 50s, falling into the 30s by the time the candy bowls are empty. Ensembles continue to show a flip to a wetter weather pattern to start November, but they also continue to push this back in time so there is plenty of time for that to change.
Aviation
Through Thursday: VFR conditions expected thru Thu. Winds remain generally south to southwest and light.
Outlook:
Friday: As the cold front sweeps thru the region some MVFR CIGs may be possible north of the mtns, including HIE.
Saturday-Monday: VFR conditions expected.
Marine
Southwest winds will gradually increase thru Thu. By afternoon some gusts around 25 kt and seas building to 5 ft are likely for the waters around Skate Bank. A SCA has been issued into Fri morning for those waters north of Port Clyde. Otherwise winds and seas are expected to remain below SCA thresholds.
