Discussion
KEY MESSAGE 1 DESCRIPTION:
A cooler air mass will continue to advect into the area this morning on steady NW winds. Gusts have come down from their peak last evening, but may perk up again after sunrise as the boundary layer deepens. Gusts to around 25 mph will be possible through the morning and will subside this afternoon as the gradient slackens with high pressure moving closer to overhead. It will be much cooler today with highs ranging from the upper 30s near the Canadian Border to low 50s across the south. The cooler airmass combined with favorable radiational cooling conditions will bring lows into the 20s tonight.
Temperatures moderate Sunday into Monday as high pressure settles south of New England. Another area of high pressure over SE Canada pushes south Tuesday and may send a backdoor front through the area that could knock temperatures down a few degrees. However, the NBM still keeps temperatures above normal with highs ranging from the 50s north to 60s south. Ensembles suggest troughing over the western US will slowly migrate east through the week. Here, across the Northeast conditions likely stay dry through at least Wednesday with precipitation chances slowly rising late in the week as the trough approaches the East Coast.
Aviation
Through Tonight: VFR expected through tonight. A steady NW wind is expected early this morning and the increase in mixing after sunrise will allow for some additional wind gusts around 20 kt during the first half of the day. Gusts diminish this afternoon with light and variable winds tonight.
Outlook:
Sunday-Wednesday: VFR conditions expected.
Marine
SCA conditions are expected for all waters through early this morning, and a few near gale force gusts are likely for the outer waters. These gusty winds continue into the first part of today before diminishing in the afternoon. Otherwise, winds and seas will remain below SCA criteria through the middle of next week.
