What has changed
No major changes were needed for this update other than to blend in the latest observations to the going forecast and to update the aviation forecast.
Key messages
1. High pressure continues to dominate the weather into next week. Expect mainly dry conditions and no significant weather impacts. Chances for rainfall may increase toward the end of next week.
Discussion
KEY MESSAGE 1 DESCRIPTION:
Partly cloudy skies will prevail behind a cold front today after any early morning showers end. Developing upslope flow will result in mainly cloudy skies across the mountains. High temperatures will range from the 50s across the north with 60s further to the south. West-northwest wind gusts may approach 30 mph during the afternoon. Tonight will be cooler with CAA continuing as overnight lows fall into the 20s and 30s. Dry conditions are expected this weekend with warming temperatures Sunday and especially Monday.
Mainly dry conditions are likely to persist through at least the middle of next week with fluctuating temperatures, although it will generally be warmer than avg. The next chance for any meaningful rainfall may come at the end of the week as we potentially get into a pattern where richer moisture gets pulled northward ahead of a potentially deep trough.
Aviation
Through tonight: VFR conditions early on today with SSW flow of 5-10 kts. W flow will prevail in the wake of a cold front today with gusts up to 25, perhaps 30 kts. VFR will persist, although some MVFR CIGS are possible at KHIE and KLEB.
Outlook:
Saturday-Tuesday: VFR conditions expected.
Marine
SW Wind gusts up to 25-30 kts are expected for the inner coastal waters east of Portland through about sunrise, before becoming W then NW behind a cold front today and tonight with gusts remaining elevated at 25-30 kts across all waters. Another SCA will be needed. Seas will be around 2-5 ft, highest outside of the bays. Otherwise, winds and seas will remain below SCA criteria Sat through the middle of next week.
