Discussion
KEY MESSAGE 1 DESCRIPTION:
As high pressure continues to drift eastward thru today, southwest winds will gradually increase. This will be most pronounced by afternoon, where winds will be breezy and temps will climb well into the 60s and maybe even hit 70 in a few spots. The cold front will not cross the area until Fri, so tonight will be quite mild for this time of year and especially mild compared to recent overnight temperatures. Some locations are unlikely to drop out of the 50s, which will be within a few degrees of the record warm min temps for this time of year.
The frontal passage itself looks to be mostly dry again, but a a few showers remain possible, especially inland.
After the front we return to dry and seasonable weather. Temps are expected to be near normal on Halloween, with most areas starting the early evening in the 40s and 50s, falling into the 30s overnight. Ensembles continue to show a flip to a wetter weather pattern to start November, but they also continue to push this back in time so there is plenty of time for that to change.
Aviation
Through today and tonight: VFR conditions expected. Winds remain generally south to southwest increasing to about 10 knots this afternoon with a few higher gusts. Mainly VFR tonight as cold front passes through. However, a few hours of MVFR cigs will be possible in the mountains into early Friday morning, including HIE. We also may see a few hours of enhanced low- level wind shear tonight at PWM, MHT, CON, and LEB.
Outlook:
Friday: Some MVFR CIGs may be possible north of the mtns, including HIE. WNW wind gusts approaching 25 KT at times.
Saturday-Monday: VFR conditions expected.
Marine
Southwest winds will gradually increase thru today. By afternoon some gusts around 25 kt and seas building to 5 ft are likely for the waters around Skate Bank. A SCA has been issued into Fri morning for those waters north of Port Clyde. Otherwise winds and seas are expected to remain below SCA thresholds.
