- Some morning dampness with a combination of patchy fog, drizzle, and mist. Spotty leftover shower possible as well. Drier for the afternoon/evening Halloween plans.
- Warm temperatures and rain free conditions Sunday and Monday before a cold front moves through Tuesday possibly bringing a line of showers and storms to most areas.
- A drier airmass arrives mid to late next week behind front with cooler mornings and mild, but pleasant afternoons.
Short term
(Today through Sunday) Issued at 1223 AM CDT Sat Oct 31 2026
The main event that had brought beneficial rains to the region has come to an end as the primary shortwave has exited the area to the northeast. Residual area moisture and the ground saturation from these rains would likely yield to some continued dampness into the morning from combination of patchy fog, drizzle, and mist. There still may be a few isolated showers as well, perhaps along a final but minor piece of energy aloft advancing west to east out of West Texas. Conditions fully dry out and clouds scatter out during the afternoon into the evening and this works out well for Halloween plans, including trick-or-treating. Temporary mid-level ridging builds over the area for Sunday. This yields to a warmer afternoon with many climbing back above 80 degrees but latest short term guidance does show thickening high level clouds advancing into the region, which could help to keep the daytime highs a little more within check and lower than the previous forecasts.
Long term
(Sunday night through Friday) Issued at 1223 AM CDT Sat Oct 31 2026
Monday looks to trend as the warmest day of the week with greater afternoon sunshine, even with the mid-level ridging sliding to the east with the influence from an approaching storm system over the Intermountain West. This storm system advances into the Central Plains into Tuesday and this sends a cold front into our area. The front looks on target to arrive sometime from the overnight into Tuesday morning before exiting the Coastal Plains around early afternoon. The front has a continued signal of bringing at least a broken line of showers and storms immediately along it across the majority of the region. There could be enough deep layer shear combined with limited instability for some organized stronger convection along the line. The rain and storm chances then quickly shutoff behind the front as moderate northwesterly winds help to usher drier air into the region. This drier air helps yield to cooler mornings for mid to late week and mild but refreshing afternoons with lower humidity. Changes may be then on the horizon entering the weekend pending the amount of moisture with onshore flow and the evolution of the upper level pattern.
Aviation
(06Z TAFS) Issued at 1223 AM CDT Sat Oct 31 2026
After a day of showers across the region, low ceilings have developed at all of the terminals. Ceilings are MVFR to LIFR and these will remain in place through night. There will also be reduced visibility, but the ceilings will determine the category. Ceilings will gradually improve through the morning reaching VFR by mid-afternoon.
