Key messages

Issued at 1155 PM CDT Mon Oct 26 2026

- Fog, which can be dense, has the potential to form anywhere in the panhandles this morning. This can pose a travel hazard for the morning commute.

- Rain and thunderstorm chances return to the Panhandles Thursday night and Friday, and Sunday night and Monday.

Short term

(Tonight through Wednesday night) Issued at 1155 PM CDT Mon Oct 26 2026

The weather system has departed the area with the flow gradually becoming more southwesterly for both today and Wednesday. This will lead to more stable and dry conditions for the panhandles for both days. However, there is still ample low level moisture across the panhandles from the weather system's rainfall. This has the potential to cause foggy conditions both this morning and again on Wednesday. This fog can be dense and pose a travel hazard if encountered, so use caution if it encountered. Temperatures will be on the rise for both today and Wednesday with highs mainly in the 70s to even the low 80s.

Long term

(Thursday through next Monday) Issued at 1155 PM CDT Mon Oct 26 2026

The pattern continues to shift going into Thursday with a large scale trough deepening across western CONUS. Within the flow of this large scale trough a smaller weather system will push across Mexico and eject into the southern plains. In doing so this system will draw up moisture into the panhandles starting on Thursday. The moisture coupled with the weather system will bring about the next round of rain showers and thunderstorms for the panhandles. The weather system is most likely to reach its peak late on Thursday through Friday morning. Just as fast as it arrived this weather system will most likely depart eastward late Friday. This would allow for a small window of calmer weather Saturday into early Sunday. The next weather system has an increasing chance of impacting the southern plains Sunday into Monday bringing a further round of rain showers and thunderstorms. This period of active weather will also more likely than not lead to a drop in the temperatures. However, there doesn't seem to be any pushes of cold air so even with a drop in the temperatures it will most likely still remain above normal. So we are still waiting on the first snow of the season.

Aviation

(12Z TAFS) Issued at 616 AM CDT Tue Oct 27 2026

As of this morning, present satellite and ground observations were seeing patchy fog form across the Panhandles with visibility ranging anywhere form 4 to half a mile. Currently this fog is only impacting KAMA and KDHT with both reporting visibility drops into the MVFR range while KAMA is currently seeing LIFR CIGs. These conditions are likely to last through the early morning with an earliest ending time of around 10 AM CDT. After which, drier conditions should see all site clear for the afternoon with VFR conditions expected to hold into the late night hours.
