Key messages
Issued at 1223 AM CDT Sat Oct 31 2026
- Very light rain and drizzle will persist across the area through the early morning hours.
- A brief chance of showers and thunderstorms late Sunday into early Monday morning.
Short term
(Now through Saturday night) Issued at 1034 PM CDT Fri Oct 30 2026
A dreary night is in store for the FA. A few very light rain showers still exist across the Rolling Plains, but otherwise rain has become mostly drizzle and mist. This trend is expected to continue through the morning hours as the upper trough is now east of the FA. There are some rain showers across the EPZ FA, but these are mostly due to decent upper diffluence and will likely not make it this far eastward. Skies will slowly/partially clear from west to east through the day as upper flow becomes more westerly and surface flow veers slightly to the southwest in response to a surface lee low. Clouds will linger long enough for highs to struggle to reach the low 60s. Clouds will likely redevelop overnight in the form of low stratus as surface winds become light with surface moisture remaining high.
Long term
(Sunday through next Friday) Issued at 1034 PM CDT Fri Oct 30 2026
Our next upper level system will be a decently amplified upper trough pushing eastward across the Central Rockies. This system will likely bring more wind than it will rainfall. A surface low will develop over the foothills of Colorado Sunday and will help for surface winds to increase to 20-25 mph out of the south. With upper flow remaining out of the southwest and the bulk of upper lift staying well to our north, the region will likely be dryslotted sans a few isolated showers. The upper low will pass to our northeast by Tuesday and will usher in a weak cold front with highs only cooling (possibly) into the 60s, down from the 70s on Monday. This will be due to lack of a fetch of cool surface temps to transport southward. Weak upper ridging will move in mid week and eventually replaced with mostly benign, zonal flow through late week.
Aviation
(06Z TAFS) Issued at 1223 AM CDT Sat Oct 31 2026
LIFR CIGs and poor visibility will continue at KLBB/KPVW overnight and well into Saturday morning with occasional DZ persisting. A period of visibility and/or CIGs below minimums is possible at either site during the hours surrounding sunrise, but confidence on whether or not this occurs is low. KCDS is likely to remain MVFR overnight, but could experience dips into IFR as well. Slow improvement is then expected area-wide beginning mid-morning, but precise timing of any return to VFR is uncertain at this issuance.
