Discussion
Issued at 101 PM EDT Wed Oct 28 2026
The next few days will remain dry with pleasant temperatures as a 850-700 mb ridge will be parked across the Southeast. The main impacts through Friday will be morning fog, which should mainly be focused along area rivers and lakes. Low afternoon RH values in the 30s will be a concern to fire weather interests, but winds will be light through the weekend.
Previous forecasts have pointed to the next chance of rain arriving Saturday night and continuing into Sunday. Models are backing away from that solution with the latest runs, particularly the ECMWF, which now has completely dry weather until late next week. A few mid/upper level shortwave troughs cross the area in this time frame, but are too moisture-starved in the low levels to produce much measurable precip. The strong 850 mb ridge remains anchored to the Mid-Atlantic coast and Outer Banks region through early next week, keeping deep moisture well to our west. We can certainly use some rain, but mostly sunny skies and highs in the 70s will be enjoyable as we head into November.
Aviation
(00Z TAFS) Issued at 719 PM EDT Wed Oct 28 2026
VFR conditions expected to remain predominant. Patchy fog along the rivers in the early morning hours seems possible, but all available guidance is pessimistic over the odds of it successfully impacts terminals, so maintained prior TAFs and kept fog potential out. Otherwise dry with light to calm winds through the period.
