Key messages
1) High pressure and a somewhat cooler airmass will settle into the area today into Saturday.
2) A series of upper level disturbances will result in occasional rain chances through the first half of next week.
Discussion
KEY MESSAGE 1) The cold front will move southeast of our area this morning with high pressure building into the region behind it. This will lead to dry and somewhat cooler conditions as we head into the weekend. Highs today will range from the mid 60s north to the lower 70s in the south, with highs on Saturday mainly in the 65 to 70 degree range.
KEY MESSAGE 2) A mid level short wave will move out of the mid Mississippi Valley Saturday night and across the Ohio Valley Sunday into Sunday night. There remains some uncertainty as to how much moisture will be pulled up into our area ahead of this, with the NAM and GFS still the most bullish. However, the ECMWF/ECMWF mean have trended just a bit wetter, so will continue with chance pops.
A deeper mid/upper level trough is forecast to progress east across the central CONUS early next week, but there remains significant differences in the timing of this as well as the timing/placement/ strength of any embedded short waves. As a result, a fair bit of uncertainty continues with the forecast through the second half of the long term period so will still broad brush with chance pops.
Aviation
A cold front will continue to move southeast across the area early this morning, with some VFR stratocumulus persisting in its wake through mid morning. With high pressure and a drier airmass building to the region behind the front, VFR conditions will prevail through the remainder of the TAF period. North winds to around 10 knots can be expected today with winds then decreasing as they become more northeast to east tonight.
OUTLOOK: MVFR ceilings and visibility possible Sunday into Monday.
