Forecaster's discussionIssued 10/28/2026, 1:02 PM EDT

What has changed

Updated aviation discussion for 18z TAFs.

Increased chance for some patchy fog developing late tonight/early tomorrow morning.

Key messages

1. Spotty minor tidal flooding expected with Thursday morning's high tide.

2. Patchy fog possible tomorrow morning. Otherwise, no other significant weather concerns over the next several days.

Discussion

KEY MESSAGE 1: Spotty minor tidal flooding expected with Thursday morning's high tide.

Elevated astro tides from the recent full moon and weak onshore flow resulted in some spotty minor tidal flooding across portions of the southern NJ and Delaware coastline and areas within Delaware Bay earlier this morning. For those same areas, some spotty minor tidal flooding is possible Thursday morning, but tide levels should be lower than this morning and no advisories are expected at this time.

No tidal flooding expected on the tidal Delaware River, northern NJ coast, or Chesapeake Bay.

KEY MESSAGE 2: Patchy fog possible tomorrow morning. Otherwise, no other significant weather concerns over the next several days.

High pressure moves offshore tonight. A weak cold front passes through the region Friday, and then high pressure returns for the weekend. Low pressure may approach the region for the start of next week.

Dry conditions are expected through at least Sunday with high temperatures generally from the upper 60s to low 70s on Thursday and Friday. Cooler, but still slightly above normal temperatures expected for this weekend. The only thing of note is some patchy fog developing late tonight/early tomorrow morning, mainly over rural areas across the region. This could result in some brief visibility restrictions during the morning commute, though fog is not currently expected to be widespread.

The next chance of rain doesn't come until next week.

Aviation

The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Rest of Today: VFR. East/southeast winds around 5 to 10 kt. High confidence.

Tonight: Primarily VFR but some MVFR stratus is possible late tonight and early tomorrow morning at KRDG/KABE. Stratus should not get to the I-95 or South Jersey terminals but cannot rule it out completely. Some patchy fog may develop, but would put the probability of any fog at any one site around 20% or less, not high enough to include in the TAF at this time. Light and variable winds generally expected, though a southeast direction may be favored at times. Moderate confidence.

Thursday: Primarily VFR. Any fog that develops will dissipate by 13z. Stratus across the Lehigh Valley could linger thorugh most of the morning though, dissipating between 14z-16z. Winds pick up out of the south/southwest around 5 to 10 kt.

Outlook:

Thursday Night through Monday: VFR. No significant weather.

Marine

Tranquil conditions expected on the waters with no headlines in place. Winds out of the east/southeast around 10 kt or less and seas 2 to 3 feet.

Outlook:

Thursday through Sunday: Sub-SCA conditions. Fair weather.

Watches, warnings and advisories

PA: None. NJ: None. DE: None. MD: None. MARINE: None.
