Key messages
Issued at 1140 PM CDT Mon Oct 26 2026
- With ongoing drought conditions across the region, elevated fire weather conditions will remain of concern through the end of the work week.
- The lack of appreciable rainfall and growing rainfall deficit will result in further drought degradation through the end of this month and likely into early November.
- Scattered showers at the end of the work week into early this weekend could bring temporary relief to rain starved soils until widespread appreciable rainfall returns.
Discussion
Issued at 1127 PM CDT Mon Oct 26 2026
The upper-level ridge that has been responsible for the ongoing dry pattern will move east, bringing a slight pattern shift over the next couple of days. Southwest flow aloft will tap into Pacific moisture which will result in increased cloud-cover areawide. Surface high pressure across the Appalachians will maintain east-southeast winds allowing for a gradual increase in low-level moisture. Otherwise, aside from the slight surge in RH values along with periods of cloudiness, the overall pattern to remain rain free with high temperatures continuing to remain above average in the 80s through Thursday.
An areawide elevated wildfire threat will persist through at least Tuesday with conditions improving throughout the week across east Texas into southeast Oklahoma as low-level moisture increases and drives afternoon relative humidity values upwards to near 50 percent. Unfortunately, relative humidity values across south Arkansas and north Louisiana may not respond as quickly, prompting a lingering wildfire threat across these areas through mid to late week.
All eyes on this weekend as a surface and upper-low deepen across Texas and translate northeast across Oklahoma on Friday night into Saturday bringing beneficial widespread rainfall to the ArkLaTex. However, rainfall totals will remain insufficient to make significant improvement to the ongoing drought. /05/
Aviation
(06Z TAFS) Issued at 1115 PM CDT Mon Oct 26 2026
High cloud cover continues to overspread our airspace from the west and expect this continue through at least the first half of the 06z TAF period. Should begin losing some of this from the west late in the TAF period from west to east during the afternoon/evening hours on Tuesday. Regardless, VFR conditions will prevail. Winds will be light and variable to light southeast with speeds under 10kts.

Fire weather
Issued at 1252 PM CDT Mon Oct 26 2026
Elevated fire weather conditions will continue across the region over the next 24-36 hours, due to ongoing drought conditions and min RH values between 25 to 35%. Therefore a Fire Danger Statement remains in effect through 7 PM Tuesday.
