: Morning Area Forecast Discussion:
Key messages
- Dry and temperate conditions persist through the end of the work week amid a gradual warming trend.
- Rain chances begin to increase by the weekend, especially by late Saturday into Sunday.
Short term
(Today through Thursday) Issued at 252 AM EDT Wed Oct 28 2026
Shortwave moving through the flow today will result in dense cirrus over at least the northern half of the area through much of the day today. Dry lower levels will keep the area free from rain chances, as is expected through much of the week. For tomorrow, a developing low off the southeast coast will result in some degree of moisture beginning to funnel into central Georgia which will allow for lower clouds to filter in Thursday morning before clearing out into the evening. Again no rain chances are expected with this. Winds will remain out of the northeast through the next two days with speeds at 5-8mph throughout the next two days. Temperatures are unfortunately beginning to rise with high temperatures today in the low to mid 70s across the area with the influence of cloud cover. Tomorrow highs creep into the upper 70s to low 80s across the area as moisture and dewpoints rise especially over central Georgia. Lows will continue to be in the upper 40s to low 50s.
Long term
(Thursday night through Tuesday) Issued at 252 AM EDT Wed Oct 28 2026
The extended periods start off with continued dry weather but things will be changing as we get into the weekend. By Thu night the high pressure ridge will still be mostly in place centered over eastern TN/western NC. This ridge will still be strong enough to keep the area precipitation free through Fri but it is weakening. By Fri morning the remnants from Tropical Storm Vance will have moved onshore the west coast of Mexico and into Western TX. This wave of tropical moisture is expected to spread North and East across the central Plains and the Gulf Coast states (TX/LA/MS/AL) through Sat morning. By daybreak Sat the ridge center that was keeping us dry will have moved NE into the New England states with a weak wedge setup down the Eastern seaboard. The models begin to show some of the tropical moisture to our west beginning to push into West GA by late Sat afternoon/evening. One issue is timing with the introduction of the tropical moisture across our area as things are still a bit muddy. The GFS and ECMWF booth agree that this next system is coming but they show its earliest arrival by 18z Sat and its latest by 06z Sun. Once this system/moisture is moves into the state it is expected to continue pushing east exiting the area Mon afternoon/evening. Best precip chances still appear to be from the early morning hours Sun to Sun evening/night. Right now not seeing much in the way of severe weather with this system but it does appear it could be a very efficient rain maker. Looking at most locations seeing 1" to 2" possible with some isolated higher amounts through Mon.
Temperatures in the extended periods begin a bit warm with highs expected in the upper 70s to lower 80s. With increased clouds Sat and precip moving in Sun Temps decrease a bit with highs Sat mainly in the 70s to near 80 and highs in the 60s and 70s Sun. Low temps expected mainly in the 40s and 50s through day 7.
Aviation
(06Z TAFS) Issued at 125 AM EDT Wed Oct 28 2026
VFR through much of the period SCT to BKN high level clouds likely. MVFR beginning to filter in late in the ATL TAF period. NE Winds continue at 5-8kt.
