Discussion
(Friday through next Thursday) Issued at 1023 PM CDT THU OCT 29 2026
The ridging that has been in place over the Southeastern CONUS the last few days is expected to slowly shift eastward as a shortwave trough move through the Southern Plains on Friday. Rain- free conditions should continue through the day on Friday with increasing high clouds as the shortwave approaches from the west. By Saturday, and especially Saturday night, we'll start to see increasing rain chances, especially in the evening and overnight into Sunday morning. Currently, some of the higher resolution guidance has tried to trend lower on the rain chances compared to the previous days, so that will be something to monitor during the day on Friday. Otherwise, the shortwave is expected to slowly lift northeastward through the day on Sunday, leaving at least low chances for rain through Sunday evening.
We should have dry conditions again by Monday and potentially into Tuesday morning as a deeper trough begins to move through the Central Plains. This system will lead to another round of increased rain chances towards the middle part of next week with model guidance in decent agreement with the timing on Wednesday into Thursday. However, the overall synoptic setup still has some uncertainty with it, so that will be monitored in the coming days.

(00Z TAFS) Issued at 725 PM CDT THU OCT 29 2026
VFR conditions are expected to continue through the next 24 hours as the broad ridge remains in place across the region. Easterly to northeasterly winds are expected between 5-7kts through the period. We'll likely see increased high clouds through the day as a shortwave approaches from the west, but this shouldn't lead to any TAF restrictions.

Fire weather
Moisture will begin to slowly increase on Friday, leading to min RHs increasing into the 40-50% range. Over the weekend, a surge of deeper moisture will keep RHs well above 50%, leading to increased rain chances Saturday evening through Sunday morning.
